Brief Summary

We are the New Hyde Park Chinese Association, NHPCA (http://nhpca.org ), a non-profit organization with about 500 members from New Hyde Park, Garden City Park, and Garden City area. Since January, our leadership team had been closely monitoring the epidemic condition in China and Italy, thus our organization were well planned for the outbreak at the beginning of March when we initiated donation among our members. Within a couple of weeks, our organization received a total amount of $15,849.00; 2,200 facemasks; 120 N95 masks, and 50 boxes of gloves. We’ve donated to nearby hospitals, police stations, fire stations, post offices and our community residents. Everyone’s generous donations reflects the love and cohesion of the Chinese community in the New Hyde Park neighborhood. The association spent $13,060.49 on anti-epidemic supplies like disinfectants, masks, thermometers and gloves. The remain balance is $2,788.51 is currently reserved as our community assistance fund.

To summarize the work that we have accomplished:

In the early stage of the epidemic where the frontline medical staffs were severely deficient in PPE’s, NHPCA immediately responded and donated FDA approved N95 masks, isolation gowns and protective goggles for facilities including St. Francis Hospital, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Glen Cove Hospital. The medical staffs said the masks solved their urgent needs. Later on, we also purchased thermometers and covers for the St. Francis Hospital.

We also acknowledged that many other frontline essential workers such as police officers, firefighters  and mail carriers didn’t have enough protective equipment.  We donated thousands of facemasks, gloves, and disinfectants to them. To promote self-protection for our neighborhood, the association also initiated on Facebook and organized volunteers to distribute facemasks, disinfectants, gloves and other protective equipment to our local residents and bus drivers at the Chef Wang Chinese restaurant parking lot. We created a web page for front line workers to apply for protective equipment online.

The charity of the Chinese community has been highly praised by local residents and donors, as they have left messages on Facebook and appreciated the Chinese community for their generous dedication.

Activities organized by NHPCA was briefly summarized as following:

On 3/19, 200 N95 masks were donated to Glen Cove Hospital.

On 3/27, 12,000 gloves, 1,000 masks, and three large boxes of hand sanitizer were donated to the New Hyde Park post office.

On 3/29, we organized “Chef Wang’s Chinese Restaurant” to deliver lunch to LIJ’s medical staff.

On 3/30, 10,000 gloves and 2000 masks were donated to the Nassau county police station.

On 3/30, 2000 masks, 4000 pairs of gloves, and three boxes of hand sanitizer were distributed to New Hyde Park community residents.

On 3/31, 500 masks, 40 N95 masks, and 5000 gloves were donated to the New Hyde Park fire station

On 4/3, 5000 gloves, 500 masks and 40 N95 masks were donated to the Roslyn Post Office.

On 4/27, 1700 masks were donated to clients of Shoprite New Hyde Park.

On 4/28, 1600 masks were distributed to clients of King Kullen Garden City Park.

On 5/1, 1600 masks were donated to the Nassau County testing center.

On 5/5, we will donate thousands of face masks and four cases of gloves to Garden City Police Department and Fire Department.

Since late March, our online PPE application channel had received requests of 145 N95 masks and 20 medical masks from medical staff, all of which had been fulfilled timely.

The virus is ruthless but love heals and will bring us together. We want to also take this opportunity to thank all friends, our fellow members and volunteers who donated money, PPE’s and their efforts in this difficult time. Our work will carry on and together we will overcome the pandemic

Free Protection Materials for the NHP Neighborhood

NHPCA continues to work on helping our neighbors fight against COVID-19. Some volunteers have distributed face masks and hand sanitizers to our neighbors last week. We also posted on Facebook NHP local community group asking people to come to Chief Wang’s parking lot 11:00am-1:00pm to pickup free face masks, hand sanitizers and gloves if they need them. Thank you all for your generous donation and volunteerism at this critical time!

Support our social workers

While people are social distancing and staying at home to fight against COVID-19, we are ever more dependent on our postal workers. While NY is allocating resources to our hospitals and doctors, it’s also important to make sure that postal workers have the necessary equipment and resources to protect themselves. That is why the New Hyde Park Chinese Association has raised $12 thousand dollars that went towards the purchase of gloves, hand sanitizers and face masks. We want to thank all our donors and hope that this contribution makes our postal workers feel safer in these critical times.https://nhpca.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/img_0439-1.mov
