韩友俊（Fred Ha） has been admitted early to Princeton University. He is an outstanding volunteer representative of the Chinese Association and Sunny Chinese Center, as well as one of the team leaders in our NHPCA Youth Leadership program. He is also one of the first recipients of the Presidential Volunteer Award at Sunny Chinese Center. NHP High School’s rankings have seen a remarkable rise, and Fred’s ability to stand out is not only due to his excellent academic performance but also his active participation in community activities. Over the past two years, I have witnessed Fred’s sense of social responsibility, leadership skills, and personal growth. Congratulations, Fred Han!

Due to weather conditions, the Mid-Autumn Festival event scheduled for Friday has been rescheduled to Sunday. Sunday will have clear skies, and the last supermoon of 2023 will rise this week. The two largest planets in our solar system, Jupiter and Saturn, along with the smallest, Mercury, will accompany the moon in the sky. Don’t miss the splendid sight of the Harvest Moon shining alongside these three planets. Under the starry sky, with beautiful lake and a full moon, let’s enjoy this wonderful moment together.

To celebrate the traditional Chinese festival – #MidAutumnFestival, nine Chinese NPO organizations will jointly host a celebration event on September 29th at Eisenhower Park. Our organizing committee has spent days planning this event, including purchasing floating lanterns so that all the children can receive free water lanterns at the event. They can design their own patterns and send their best wishes by releasing these lanterns on the lake. During the event, there will also be cultural performances, free mooncakes, and many other complimentary gifts. Most importantly, admission is free. We hope you won’t miss this significant traditional cultural event on September 29th. Special thanks to @David Zhang, @Christine Liu, @Derek, and all colleagues for their hard work. 今天，华裔美国人是美国最大的亚裔人口，总计 约500万。
鸦片战争后，中国移民于 1850 年，首次涌入美国，渴望摆脱中国的经济混乱，并在加州淘金热中碰碰运气。当淘金热结束时，华裔美国人被认为是廉价劳动力，如农场工人、园丁、家庭佣工、洗衣工，以及最著名的铁路工人。

在 1860 年代，是华裔美国人建造了横贯大陆的铁路。

到 1870 年代，美国出现了广泛的经济萧条，工作变得稀缺。对华裔美国工人的敌意一直在增长。到 1882 年，情况变得更糟糕，以至于国会通过了《排华法案》，几乎禁止所有华人移民美国。

最早的唐人街早在 1900 年就开始出现在美国城市。

1943 年，当时民国政府成为美国在二战中的盟友时，国会才最终废除了《排华法案》。即便如此，中国移民仍被限制在每年仅 105 人之内，直到1965年，所有限制被取消。今天生活在纽约市区的华裔有70多万人。

During the holiday sessions, NHPCA board-members visited 3rd precinct office.

Police Officer Mark Kellerman passed away on 10/22/21 after serving 17 years in the 3rd Precinct. Sadly, Mark’s wife Wendy also passed away a year and a half ago after a battle with cancer. Please help us honor Mark’s memory and support their 3 children (ages 14, 17, and 18) by either purchasing a T-Shirt or donating to his Fund the First page (links below)

Laurence Lai and Emma Ouyang, members of NHPCA and part of New Hyde Park Memorial High School’s graduating class this year, received Valedictorian and Salutatorian respectively, ranking 1 and 2 out of 299 students in the graduating class. Congratulations to both of them for this outstanding achievement!

They are both hardworking students who, in addition to studying hard for their grades, participate in many different extracurriculars- Laurence is also a web editor for NHPCA. In addition, both Laurence and Emma were semifinalists for the NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.) Only 1% qualify per year; they are part of these 16,000 students for their grade group.
